It’s not surprising that the fitness industry is full of countless offers to get results without having to work for them. It’s what we all want.
If I can lose weight, feel great and achieve optimal health all while eating nachos and watching football OF COURSE I would take the magic pill! If I didn’t have to sweat, get out of breath, fight through sore muscles and still get results? Sign me up. Truth is I have tried this program in the past. I did it for years before stumbling into CrossFit and I never saw results.
One of the most difficult things for new members to grasp when walking into CrossFit DFW is the amount of intensity we strive for. While there are other significant factors involved in the CrossFit program, INTENSITY is where the magic happens. It is the fastest path to elite fitness. It is where results live. And it hurts.
INTENSITY = SUFFERING
Pure and simple. You must work for results. They can come quickly, but you must be willing “Embrace the Suck”. You have to keep moving when your mind says to stop. Your head will tell you to stop, to put the bar down and to rest long before your body actually needs to.
Clearly you need to listen to your body and there are times when you have to pull back the intensity and rest, but as a rule intensity gets results. So start the next workout with the mindset to get one more rep when you don’t think you can, to speed up when you feel like slowing down and leave it all out on the mats. It’s making you better.
